Volt

The volt (V) is the standard international unit of electric potential difference and electromotive force. It is defined as the amount of electrical potential difference between two points, measured in units of energy per unit of charge. Specifically, one volt quantifies the energy required to move one coulomb of electric charge between two points in a circuit. Because of its relationship to other physical quantities, the volt is dimensionally equivalent to joules per coulomb ($\text{J/C}$), which directly relates electrical work done to the amount of charge transported. This unit is fundamental for characterizing the potential gradient within electric fields, thereby quantifying the driving force behind electric currents.
