Stoma

Stomata are microscopic pores, typically located primarily on the underside of plant leaves and stems. They are critical structures for gas exchange, facilitating the intake of carbon dioxide and the release of oxygen and water vapor. The pores are regulated by specialized cells called guard cells, which open and close to control the rate of gas exchange and transpiration. This regulation is a vital physiological mechanism that allows plants to optimize resource use by managing the balance between carbon uptake for photosynthesis and water loss to the environment.
