A sling is a simple mechanical throwing weapon, consisting typically of a cord or strap anchored to a handle or loop. Its function is to launch a projectile, such as a stone or projectile weight, at high velocity through the principles of stored potential and kinetic energy. When the projectile is rapidly accelerated by the whipping motion of the material, the kinetic energy is transferred efficiently to the projectile.
