Nuclide

A nuclide is a specific form of an atom defined by its composition of protons and neutrons within the atomic nucleus. The combination of the number of protons (the atomic number) and neutrons determines the nuclide's unique characteristics, including its mass and stability. Nuclides can exist in a state of stable equilibrium or can be inherently unstable, resulting in radioactive decay. The study of nuclide decay and properties is fundamental to understanding nuclear energy, transmutations, and the physical processes that govern the structure and evolution of matter.
