Mercury (planet)

Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system and the closest celestial body to the sun. Its orbit is nearly circular, resulting in a rapid orbital period. Due to its small size and lack of a substantial atmosphere, the planet experiences extreme temperature variations between its day side and night side, leading to a highly varied surface environment. The crust is characterized by heavily cratered plains, suggesting a geological history dominated by impact events. The planet's thin, exosphere is primarily composed of materials vaporized from the surface, providing little protection from solar radiation.
