Irregular galaxy

Irregular galaxies are celestial structures that do not fit into the standardized classifications of spiral or elliptical galaxies due to their lack of defined, symmetrical shape. These galaxies typically exhibit chaotic morphology, often indicating that their structure has been disturbed by gravitational interactions, close encounters with other galaxies, or internal instability. They are generally characterized by high levels of gas and dust, which fuels intense rates of star formation, making them sites of energetic stellar nurseries. Because their structures are not predictable or symmetrical, they represent a diverse and evolving class of galaxy, providing observational evidence of the dynamic processes within galactic groups and clusters.
