Inflammation is a critical and complex biological response exhibited by tissues in response to injury, infection, or irritants. This process is mediated by the immune system and involves a sequence of vascular changes, including vasodilation and increased capillary permeability, which allows plasma proteins and immune cells to migrate to the damaged site. The accumulation of these cells, such as neutrophils and macrophages, helps to contain the threat, neutralize pathogens, and initiate the clearance of necrotic tissue. While essential for survival and wound healing, prolonged or excessive inflammation, known as chronic inflammation, can contribute to tissue damage and the development of systemic diseases.
