Electric charge

Electric charge is a fundamental physical property exhibited by matter, arising from the interactions of elementary particles. It is quantized, meaning it only exists in discrete multiples of a base unit. The existence of charge gives rise to electrostatic forces, which are responsible for the attraction or repulsion between charged bodies. There are two types of charge, conventionally labeled positive and negative; forces between like charges are repulsive, while forces between unlike charges are attractive. A core principle of physics dictates that the total electric charge within an isolated system remains constant, demonstrating the principle of conservation of charge.
