Dementia

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a decline in mental ability severe enough to affect daily life. It is not a specific diagnosis itself, but rather a syndrome resulting from various underlying conditions affecting the brain. These conditions impair cognitive functions such as memory, problem-solving, and judgment, leading to progressive cognitive impairment. Various causes, which can include changes in brain chemistry, accumulation of abnormal proteins, or damage from vascular events, determine the specific form of the disorder. Management and treatment strategies focus on symptom management, maintaining quality of life, and supporting the affected individual and their caregivers.
